What We Provide
Adoption isn’t a one-time event. No matter what your personal connection to adoption is, adoption isn’t something that happens for just one day, one month, or even one year – adoption is a lifelong journey. AKA is here to provide you with connection, education, and support; the unique kind you can only get from peers and others with a direct connection to adoption. We have also expanded the conversation and our programs to include the foster care and donor conceived community, as well as individuals navigating challenging DNA discovery journeys. We all bring unique experiences to the table and can support and learn from one another on our individual journeys toward wholeness.
Adoption Knowledge Affiliates (AKA) is a community of people who understand that the feelings connected to separation, identity, and loss can come up again and again for any member of our community. Whether you are a parent working through the grief of child separation, an adopted person grappling with the decision to search for your mother of origin, an adoptive parent contemplating how to answer questions for your child’s family tree project, or someone with an unexpected DNA discovery that poses unique challenges, you are not alone.
Do you simply want to learn more about adoption experiences in today's world? We provide education on ethics, best practices, research, and resources through our monthly peer support meetings, quarterly educational programs, and annual conference. We also elevate community voices through our online blog and member newsletter, The AKA Connection.
